DANCEHALL FOUNDATIONS
WITH ISH
Dancehall. Attitude. Culture. History. Passion. Dancehall is a melting pot of street sound and dance cultures.
Indigenous to Jamaica, Dancehall draws on a rich legacy of dance and has sub-genres within it - male, female, party, old, new and mid school, hardcore, queenz styles.
Dancehall culture, dance and music articulate the experiences of those from the garrisons of Jamaica and has become relatable in a global level. It draws on a number of dance and music cultures that have fused in Jamaica and is a dominant influence on popular styles (Afrofusion, reggaeton, commercial styles, hip hop) today.
Its flow, energy and rawness inspire every contemporary dance form. Come along to Thursdays where we find our flow, own our expression and connect with our bodies and Dancehall creators. If you're committed to culture and challenging your dance technique, this is the class for you.
This is our Beginners Dancehall class - Focusing on Dancehall roots, techniques and flows, most of which underpin commercial dance styles today. If you're looking for more of a challenging Dancehall class, try Dancehall on Thursdays at 7:30pm at Moonlight, Fyshwick.
